Your academic record will be impressive and will normally include a doctorate, or a Masters degree with a strong research element (the subject discipline is less important). Market Research Society or Chartered Institute of Marketing qualifications are desirable.

You will have ambition and drive, be full of ideas, and have a passion for building superb relationships with clients and colleagues. A talent for communication, both written and oral, is a must.

Senior Research Consultant – Current Vacancy

(Newcastle upon Tyne)

Salary range £25,000 to £32,000

To enable further growth, we are seeking a Senior Research Consultant who has an excellent academic record and is equally happy working on qualitative or quantitative projects. The role encompasses the full range of research activities, from project design to presenting findings to high profile clients, across the UK and potentially internationally.

To succeed in this role, you will have first rate analytical and reporting skills, be capable of diagnosing business issues and translating them into research requirements, and be able to win and maintain the confidence of senior managers and academics from initial brief to presentation of findings. You will also be a highly capable desk researcher and have a solid grounding in quantitative and qualitative research methods including designing and running surveys and online bulletin boards, and managing and conducting group discussions and depth interviews with senior participants. Experience in conducting and leading desk research and literature reviews in UK and global markets would be an advantage.

From the start, you will have the opportunity to lead your own portfolio of projects and to contribute to other projects across the business, producing robust, insightful and actionable research outputs.

You may already be working as a Senior Research Executive, but be eager for a more strategic role and for greater variety and intellectual challenge.

Person specification

Essential

  • Postgraduate degree (PhD, MPhil or MA/MSc)
  • Experienced in:
    • Managing research projects (qualitative or multi-mode), in a commercial or semi-commercial environment
    • Developing qualitative questionnaires, discussion guides and stimulus materials for a range of research participants, including senior executives
    • Conducting detailed desk research and/or literature reviews, to address complex research challenges
    • Focus groups moderation, online and offline
    • Developing effective client relationships
    • Developing detailed, qualitative research reports, to a standard suitable for publication
  • Able to develop research methodologies, often to meet complex research requirements, with minimal supervision
  • Excellent oral and written communications
  • A clear and engaging writing style
  • Competent and confident in engaging with senior level clients and research participants
  • Has the drive and determination to manage complex and challenging projects from start to successful completion
  • A strong client focus and commercial acumen
  • Desire for early responsibility
  • Comfortable as a team member or leader
  • Able to work flexibly to accommodate client requirements
  • Willing and able to travel to client locations (within the UK) and to stay overnight when required
  • Commitment to ethical business practices.

 Desirable

  • Market Research Society qualification
  • Experienced in using qualitative analysis software (e.g. NVivo)
  • Knowledge and understanding of B2B research and, ideally, the higher education sector. Some knowledge of further education/skills markets would also be of interest.
  • Some quantitative research experience
  • Experience in diagnosing research requirements and developing project proposals.
  • A flair for business development.

Research Executive – Current Vacancy

(Newcastle upon Tyne)

Salary range £20,000 to £25,000

We also have a vacancy for a Research Executive, to support our senior team. Projects and requirements are similar to the Senior Research Consultant role above, but would be suitable for a less experienced candidate.

Research Associate (Freelance) Roles

Marketwise Strategies works with a small number of carefully selected associates, who have the experience, personality and drive to supplement our core research team. Working on a wide variety of projects, Research Associates bring either expertise in one or more sectors, or the ability to contribute across a range of research projects.

Audio Typing and Administration

Alongside our research staff, we also employ audio transcribers, who work with us on a part-time, flexible basis.

We require individuals with fast and accurate audio typing skills, together with a high level of IT literacy. To be considered, you will need to demonstrate excellent attention to detail and work to the highest of standards.
